Football season is right around the corner (like tonight for college football) and even if you aren’t a huge football fan, I hope we can all agree that sports in the fall is a good excuse to cook some delicious food.
If I could pick one genre of food to eat for the rest of my life, it might be sports/tailgating appetizers. WHO’S WITH ME?!
If you are looking for some new, interesting appetizers to make this year, just go ahead and save this email or bookmark it on Substack so you can come back and have some great Sports Day food!
Cast Iron Chicken Wings
Ditch the fried wings and try these cast iron chicken wings which get really crispy and have a nice dry rub on them. You can add sauce of course but I don’t think they need any sauce.
Tequila Lime Chicken Wings
Another change-up from your standard wings, these are marinaded and have a lot of flavor without being too spicy. They are addictive things though and they will disappear from an appetizer table.
Easy Bean and Cheese Dip
A good dip should always be involved in a sporting event. This dip is a nice upgrade from your standard jarred bean dip and isn’t too hard to make.
Microwave Queso with Green Chiles
An upgrade from the standard microwave cheese dip, this one is super-fast to make and has great flavor. Want to warm it up? Just pop it back in the microwave!
Crab and Artichoke Dip
One of the fancier dips you’ll see on my appetizer table. This dip uses canned crab, but use the real stuff and it’s a fantastic, creamy, cheesy dip!
Creamy Edamame Dip
Something semi-healthy can be welcome to a good game-day appetizer spread. This edamame dip with chili crisp is really good with pretzels and is actually good for you!
Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups
One of my favorite finger foods is anything in a crispy wonton wrapper. This is an easier way to serve jalapeno poppers but has all the same flavors. Add crispy bacon or leave it out if you want just the jalapeno flavor!
Turkey Club Sliders
If you want something more substantial for your sports watching, these turkey club sliders are easy to assemble and you can make a large batch of them in just a few minutes for a crowd. Leftovers actually keep well for a day or two for lunch also!
Chicken Fries with Chili Ranch
Almost a chicken tender, but thinner and extra crispy, these chicken fries are SO good dipped in a quick chili crisp ranch. Ditch the frozen nuggets and try these out this fall.
Buffalo Chicken Pinwheels
Great flavors wrapped up into a hand-held situation. These are always a hit for any occasion, but feel especially right for fall sports. You can use any tortilla or wrap you’d like.
If you try out one of these recipes, be sure to leave me a comment!
I haven't tried any of the delicious looking football favorites yet but you sure made me hungry. Happy Holiday weekend !!!
