I’ve been writing and dreaming up jar scraps for almost two years now and have experimented with using the tail-end of most jars in my kitchen for various purposes.
Without question though, the best jar for enjoying the end of the jar in a different way is the peanut butter jar.
For starters, most families probably go through a decent amount of peanut butter. We have an empty jar of peanut butter at least once a month - maybe twice a month!
I’ve tried, I think, dozens of different end-of-PB-jar ideas over the years but there are a few that I keep coming back to so I thought I’d share them with all of you!
PB Jar Scraps Noodles
I’m just going to start with probably my personal favorite use of the PB jar - Noodles! It’s amazing how rich and delicious the sauce is just with a few simple add-ins and the dredges of a PB jar. A PB jar rarely sits for long in my house because of the option for these noodles for lunch!
Waffles or Pancakes
This is a fun one that I don’t have a specific recipe for, but any time you are making pancakes or waffles, you can use the jar of Peanut Butter (you need a large jar) to shake together the batter and it will give the finished breakfast a nice peanut butter flavor. Plus, it saves a dish! You can use literally any recipe so find a favorite and try it out! (I like this easy Buttermilk Waffle recipe from Simply Recipes!)
PB Jar White Russian
This is a fun one if you are a cocktail fan. You basically use the PB jar as your mixer for a classic white russian: 1 - 1 1/2 oz. vodka, 1 ounce Kahlua… shake well in the PB jar and try to get as much PB in the mix as possible. Add ice and continue to shake. Strain into a fresh cocktail glass and top with half and half.
I made a quick reel of me making this exact cocktail!
Peanut Butter Chia Pudding
This is a great breakfast option. Here’s my rough recipe for it: 1 cup almond milk, 1/4 cup yogurt, 1-2 tbsp honey, 1 teas vanilla, 2 tbsp chia seeds. Scrape down sides of PB jar and shake well. Let sit in fridge overnight or at least a few hours. I made a reel of this one also!
Peanut Butter Salad Dressing
This is a pre-view of an upcoming jar scraps, but a creamy peanut butter dressing is so good and it turns out the tailend of your PB jar is just enough to make it happen. As a start, I would start with the juice of a lime, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, 2 tablespoons warm water, a drizzle of sriracha, and some toasted sesame seeds. Shake it up and drizzle away!
What’s your favorite Peanut Butter recipe? Can you make it a jar scrap? Leave a comment!
The booze one sounds great. I have a nearly empty jar so will need some vodka…
